Wa ard developinga new database driven portfolio managment with a team of more than 12 people. We are using MeisterTask for the task to steer our four developers, to use it for reorganisation our task within the group and to develop the future design of our data base driven portfolio management. We decided to have different steps of engineering from an idea to an task for the delevoper. Even after the task is done by the developer it is used for a review by the team.
  • Easy to collaborate on a project by inside and external employees
  • Very easy to use and understand the features
  • new users are easily brought to the project
  • i am missing a Gantt Chart
  • there is no calendar function
MeisterTask is a professional way to manage the task in the team with internal an external employees. The external developers are manged by tickets through MeisterTask. MeisterTask could manage a several number of projects at the same time. For different projects it easy to define the team which is used for the project.

We used Meistertask as a task management tool for incoming external jobs, tracking orders from receipt to fulfillment. We also used it to manage cross-functional teams’ work, but this was more a stepping stone to more complex systems.
  • User interface is friendly
  • Board style was flexible
  • Email replies to notifications
  • Business features were lacking
  • Slow product updates
  • Calendar and Timeline views were not very useful
If you are doing simple tasks, and do not need to see Gantt dependencies, this can work for you. You likely know that other tools seem cumbersome already, and Meistertask is the opposite. If you like mind mapping, try combining this with Mindmeister by thhe same company to integrate your mind maps into actual project plans.

  • Simplified collaboration
  • Simplified reporting
  • Unified source of truth about work
Meistertask seems like it was made for work, and it doesn’t hide its features amid complicated menus. The Mobile experience is one of the best I have used in task management. It integrates with other tools more widely via Zapier and various built-in ecosystem connections within the Meisterlabs space. If you need to get started simplifying your digital life, this can help.

MeisterTask is such a fantastic productivity tool. We currently have four people working for NoMo Diagnostics full-time, and then we contract some of our work out to software engineers and computer scientists. MeisterTask allows us to write up various tasks that we need to get done, assign them to the correct people, and follow them through to completion.
  • I really like how MeisterTask organizes things. It is a fantastic layout, making it super simple to track who is in charge of what items/deliverables and how complete each task is.
  • The privacy features on each project are great. MeisterTask lets you add people to certain parts of each project and not others. This is very helpful because a lot of our projects need to be kept under NDA, and we can avoid ever contractor having to sign one by just giving them access to the exact parts they need and not others.
  • MeisterTask is extremely user-friendly. Everyone that I have added to our project boards has been able to understand how to use the program right away. That is extremely important, since I do not want to have a learning curve for the project management software when onboarding someone for a project.
  • I really wish there was a tab to create a Gantt Chart on MeisterTask. This would be extremely helpful to track the progress of a project as a whole.
  • Some of the controls are not intuitive. For instance, you can select an individual person to see only their respective tasks, which is super helpful. But, to unselect that person and go back to the overview, you have to refresh the page and then hit the back button. This is super inconvenient to do every time.
  • One other feature I wish was included it a "percentage complete" tracker that showed what percentage is done with each task people are on.
MeisterTask is definitely the best free online project management program out there. It is fantastic at keeping things organized and making them readily available to all members of a project group. If you are looking for a software that can show statistics such as a Gantt chart, you may want to look for other products.

  • MeisterTask saves me a lot of time in communicating about various tasks of a project. The activity chat feature lets me communicate with other members of my team without having to be in the same location as them, and increasing our productivity.
  • It has caused me to use some additional time though, and create a Gantt chart myself instead of being able to use a built-in feature.
  • MeisterTask is great for letting us organize and keep track of all aspects of a project and make sure each one gets done by its respective due date.
I would rate MeisterTask as the second-best option here. Microsoft Project is easily the best project management software you can buy. It has every feature you could imagine and then some. Asana is inferior to both other programs, having the most limited functionality out of the three. If you are looking for an excellent, free software for project management, MeisterTask is the perfect thing for you.

I switched to MeisterTask when my team was to make a (IMHO) bad decision about which solution to use for task, time and project management, hence I'm using it alone (I hope that's going to change) and transfer data from it to the one the team chose. In that one I had difficulties prioritizing my own tasks, breaking them down in smaller chunks, tracking time spent on each one, and the files that were task or project related... They were scattered widely in emails and on different machines of the team. There's another problem that it could address if we were using it as team: communication, focused on project and task. While it has email integration and mobile access, none of those are used by the team in the other solution either. Though I imagine email notifications could operate as an alarm function for due dates.
  • Kanban-like approach. The lists, cards and checklists are great when it comes to micro-management of tasks and their details.
  • Time tracking. This one is a must and it is done well.
  • Task relations. It's good to be able to put some connections between the tasks, regardless of the nature of the relation (simply being related, marking blocks or duplicates).
  • Comments and attachments are the base of task-focused communication between team members. Alas, no benefit from that for me right now. I'm only making notes to myself.
  • Calendar integration. Due date should be visible on a calendar. And they are.
  • Pro version enables workflow management by adding actions to lists. Nothing too complicated. But in turn, that makes it efficient.
  • Using together with MindMeister (a bit limited) project-wide overview is possible.
  • Support. Its quick to respond and it does a terrific job at answering questions, regarding both speed and detail.
  • Exporting data about time tracked. It'd be awesome if its detail level could be user-configured. Then again, I need that for importing the data into another system, hence it might not be that important for others.
  • Due dates are there. Estimates for time requirements are missing, therefore nothing Gantt-like either. And I miss those dearly.
  • Quick access to some features could be achieved using context menu items or clicking deails without having to open the actual task (setting priority, tags, due dates, etc.)
Sure, as there's no such thing as "one size fits all" there's not a single tool that is good at everything. It feels insufficient for project management on a higher level, where gazing at lists and cards is simply not enough, making calculations on the fly quickly escalate to 'impossible'. Putting the tasks on a Gantt diagram would be a great help. And this is where the lack of time requirement becomes a blocker.

  • Structural integrity of tasks in projects became possible. It provides status transparency.
  • Defining workflow helped develop routine in task management.
  • Routine increased efficiency (where it can, of course).
  • Increased efficiency lead to reduced effort and time requirements, thus greater chance for not passing due dates and a slight rise in quality.
Asana: while MeisterTask is card-based, this one is list-based. This one is entirely matter of preference. I prefer cards.

Trello: I used Trello for a long time and liked it. And though it lacked certain features, there were plenty of developers trying to create add-ons to browsers that patched the holes. But that brought together different styles and different ways of thinking. The solution MeisterTask provides seem much more cohesive to me.

Kanbanflow: I used this one for a very long time, too. It has some features (analytics & reporting) that are not implemented in MeisterTask (yet). Where it lacks is the same MeisterTask is short: a quick overview of the project itself.

Summary:
There are many other similar products, some of them offering more features in their no-cost subscriptions, or plainly, more features. But then again, it's not about the number of features, but how fluid and intuitive their use is. They also suffer from the same drawbacks MeisterTask does when it is used on its own. But MeisterTask can be connected to MindMeister, and I cannot imagine a better tool for planning than a good old mind map. And MindMeister is good at that.
